Intern insights: What I’ve learned in my first 2 weeks at PLMR

by Orla Dooley

I joined PLMR as a second year Marketing student on my placement year. Whilst navigating the journey of discovering my career path, joining PLMR’s Digital Team has truly been an eye-opening experience. Whilst my knowledge from university has acted as a foundation, it does not compare to the real learning from hands-on experience.

Daily discoveries and learning experiences

Each day at PLMR presents new challenges and opportunities, enabling me to develop a diverse skill set. During the short amount of time that I have been here, my day-to-day tasks have varied greatly, including copywriting, ad messaging, creating reports, and even blog writing! The variety of tasks not only keeps me engaged but also helps me to identify my strengths and areas for growth.

Working across a range of industries, including Health and Social Care, Education, and Sustainability, has been particularly enriching. Being exposed to different client needs and industry landscapes has proven to be a powerful learning tool. It also keeps my working days dynamic and exciting!

Looking ahead: Gaining Clarity

You might be curious as to whether this experience has clarified my post-graduation goals. Whilst I am still learning so much every day that I could not yet answer that question in full, my time at PLMR is providing valuable insights.

The varied and fast-paced nature of agency work is resonating with me since I struggle to concentrate on singular tasks for long periods of time. This realisation is helping me refine my career aspirations, aligning them with what motivates and excites me.

To summarise, my first two weeks at PLMR have been a whirlwind of learning and growth. I’m excited to see how my role evolves and grateful to be part of such a supportive team in a positive working environment.
