A Living Wage Employer
We have been accredited as a Living Wage Employer for our commitment to providing the best employment conditions and paying all our staff, including interns, fairly.
While this is not uncommon for permanent consultants in the public relations sector, it is rare that the same conditions are extended to non-permanent team members, interns and support team members so we are proud to be one of only a small percentage of agencies that can call themselves Living Wage Employers. that can call themselves Living Wage Employers.
Diversity
PLMR recognises that it is essential to provide equal opportunities to all staff and is committed to eliminating discrimination and encouraging diversity amongst our entire workforce. Our aim is to have an inclusive organisational culture. We want it to be fair, truly representative of all sections of our society and our clients, and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best.
We look to deliver a fair and inclusive work environment and consider any proposed career development and promotion opportunities on a merit-based approach with equal opportunities for all. We provide the opportunity for colleagues to swap some religious bank holiday dates in the UK for alternative religious holiday dates that suit their beliefs, and employees are also provided with the space and resources to create and host affinity groups.
PLMR is committed to recruiting a diverse workforce and has a number of strategies in place to reduce bias in hiring. We operate a blind recruitment policy which involves removing personal information from applications to ensure hiring managers are focused on a candidate’s skills and suitability for a role. We also use recruitment panels in which one colleague from outside of the hiring team is involved in the recruitment process to ensure team leaders are seeing beyond their own natural unconscious bias.
We strive to support the next generation of diverse talent and offer a variety of valuable work experience and placement opportunities to individuals from all walks of life. PLMR is committed to increasing diversity in the industry and as such, partners with organisations including the Taylor Bennett Foundation and Marsha de Cordova MP’s Political Summer School, and schools to provide opportunities to BAME candidates and those from disadvantaged backgrounds. These work experience and placement opportunities provide a valuable insight into the industry and support the next generation of communications professionals to take their next steps after education.
PLMR also undertakes pro-bono consultancy work for charities and organisations that support diverse groups to aid the important work they undertake. Consultants across the business are encouraged to identify up to three of these organisations to support each year.
We are continually looking for ways to strengthen our approach to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), and have formed a PLMR DEI working group which reviews ways we can enhance our work in this area further.
Philanthropy
PLMR is an organisation that cares.
We care about the incredible clients and causes that we support through our work. We care about the brilliant people that work here. And we also care about a range of issues that go beyond our day jobs.
Every year since we were founded in 2006, PLMR has donated 5% of net profits to philanthropic causes at home and abroad. Over the lifetime of the business, that means we have now donated more than quarter of a million pounds in cash or equivalent. Read more about our charitable work here.
Our chosen charity for the year is the UK Community Foundations, which will allow us to have a positive impact in the communities where we are based.
