Ollie is PLMR’s Managing Director. He was named UK Consultant of the Year by the PRCA in 2020 and won the Best Issues Management award at the 2019 Corp Comms Awards. He specialises in strategy, public affairs, media relations, reputation management, and crisis communications.
Ollie joined PLMR from the Department for Education, where he was chief press officer to former Secretaries of State and Ministers including Ed Balls, Michael Gove, Liz Truss, Nick Gibb, David Laws and Lord Nash. He led on all schools’ issues and gained positive coverage across the media for the Government’s education reforms. He also organised speeches, events, school visits and press conferences, and prepared and briefed Secretaries of State and Ministers ahead of media interviews and Select Committee hearings. During his time at the DfE, he was also seconded to the 10 Downing Street press team when David Cameron was Prime Minister, and to the Foreign Office, and won a place on the Government Communication Service’s inaugural talent management programme.
While specialising in education, Ollie works with clients across sectors to raise their profile, protect their reputation and ensure they achieve their objectives. He has a track record of delivering top-tier national media coverage for clients through bespoke, clearly-messaged and carefully targeted PR plans; of defending clients’ reputations through skilled media management and crisis communications; and of winning nationally significant public affairs and integrated communications campaigns for clients.
Ollie started his career as a journalist, working as a news editor and reporter for a number of local, regional and national newspapers, and has an extensive contacts book built up across his time working in the media, the Civil Service and politics.
He was educated at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and has undertaken courses at the London College of Printing and Harvard Business School.
