After standing for Parliament in 2024, John joined PLMR as our Senior Counsel across education, apprenticeships, and social mobility. Alongside this, John serves on the government’s Digital Skills Council, the advisory boards of College Online & the Access Project, as well as the LGA’s Children & Young People Board. John is also an elected local councillor, currently serving as Group Leader for four years.
Prior to this, John was Executive Director at UCAS where he relaunched their corporate strategy, established their public affairs and public policy function, as well as leading the inclusion of apprenticeships on UCAS for the first time. Alongside UCAS, John was appointed by Downing Street to the board of the Institute for Apprenticeships & Technical Education which oversees and regulates the skills & apprenticeships system across England. Other experience includes being a co-founder of the Education Policy Institute; acting as an advisor to a range of Education Ministers, & advising business leaders & FTSE CEOs on labour markets, skills, & education while at the CBI.
