Labour Tribes Mapped: understanding the forces shaping today’s Labour Party

Labour Tribes Mapped
Join our online webinar briefing from 12:00pm – 1:00pm on Monday 13th July 2026 with Emma Burnell, Editor of LabourList to discuss the internal dynamics of the Labour Party and what the emergence of the new “Labour Tribes” means for organisations engaging with Government.

The Labour Party enters the second half of this Parliament at a moment of profound political change. Following Keir Starmer’s decision to stand down as Labour leader and Prime Minister, attention has now turned to what comes next for the Party and Government.

While Andy Burnham is widely expected to become Labour’s next leader and Prime Minister, the leadership transition is only part of the story. The internal coalitions, ideological traditions, and competing centres of influence within Labour will help shape the priorities of the next Government, determine which voices gain influence, and affect Labour’s approach to business, public services, and the voluntary sector.

Understanding these dynamics is incredibly important for organisations seeking to engage effectively with ministers, advisers, MPs, and the wider Labour movement.

Labour’s internal coalition has continued to evolve, shaped by tensions between pragmatism and ideology, the influence of new MPs, trade unions, metro mayors, and shifting electoral pressures across the country. PLMR and LabourList’s Labour Tribes project has mapped these relationships to show the key internal groups within the Labour Party.

As Parliament rises for summer recess that week and Labour prepares to nominate a new leader and Prime Minister on the Friday, we will examine what the leadership contest tells us about Labour’s future direction, explore how the groupings we have identified interact and compete for influence, and answer your questions on the political developments and outcome that will shape the next phase of Government.

The discussion will be chaired by Dominic Moffitt, Senior Counsel at PLMR and elected Labour councillor, and will conclude with a live Q&A with Emma.
