The Situation

PLMR were appointed to undertake a pre-application consultation exercise for a project at 100 Broad Street in Birmingham.

The proposals were for a highly sustainable Build-to-Rent development that would deliver 294 new homes across a 33-storey tower in the heart of Birmingham.

The development site had previously been earmarked for redevelopment, with a separate application approved, but deemed unviable.

What we did

As part of our work it was important to clearly present how the new proposed development would optimise the potential of the location and deliver real value for the area. It was also key to emphasise the sustainability aspect of the scheme.

PLMR presented the development’s potential and sustainability through a consultation programme where we set up a website to clearly showcase the proposals, distributed leaflets to relevant stakeholders, and produced a press release which achieved widespread local and sectoral coverage. We also held a public exhibition event to showcase the proposals.

The Result

As a result of our efforts, we received overwhelmingly supportive comments (93%) for the proposals during the pre-application public consultation period. This put our client in a strong position to finalise and submit the application.
