Eastern Powerhouse seeks election manifesto influence

Simon Darby

Director - Head of Public Affairs

The Eastern Powerhouse continues to go from strength-to-strength as it seeks to attract government investment and drive growth across the East of England, ensuring the region’s contribution and potential is fully understood and recognised in Westminster.

As a founder and Advisory Board Member, PLMR Genesis is at the heart of shaping the direction and priorities of the Eastern Powerhouse – a business-led organisation aimed at generating the case for investment in the East of England – working closely with members and the body’s chair, former Mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, James Palmer.

During the last 12 months, the organisation has been leveraging the support of many of the region’s MPs while working to raise both its own profile and that of the East of England with a series of events taking in Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester and Cambridge.

With attention now turning towards the next General Election, it is vital that the East of England’s voice is heard by policymakers so that measures of support for the region make their way into the major political parties manifestos.

With this in mind, the Eastern Powerhouse is embarking on a programme of work identifying the challenges facing sectors and businesses across the region. Three overarching themes that impact businesses across the region have been identified: skills, innovation and infrastructure.  Focus will also be given to the region’s current strengths and potential in the green energy, life sciences, agri-tech and advanced manufacturing sectors.

Developing recommendations and highlighting where investment is needed across these areas will help shape an effective manifesto for the East of England in the lead-up to the next election and will help position the region as a driver of growth that must be backed.

This is an exciting time for the East of England. PLMR Genesis will be working with partners across the Eastern Powerhouse membership to make this a reality.
