PLMR was appointed by Coventry City Council and Coventry Airport Ltd to launch and promote the Coventry Airport site as the preferred location for a West Midlands Gigafactory.
PLMR executed a comprehensive communications campaign, emphasising the need for UK battery supply. Leveraging relationships with key officials, PLMR developed a Golden Book setting out the political and economic case and presented this to regional and national policy makers, leveraging relationships with Andy Street and local MPs to engage with Ministers and established the ‘Gigafactory Communications Group.’
PLMR delivered a media launch for the site and achieved widespread coverage across regional and national press, including in the BBC, Guardian, Daily Telegraph, Sky News, Coventry Telegraph, Birmingham Post, and others. Overall, we achieved 344 individual pieces of coverage, as well as positive social media posts from Andy Street and Rishi Sunak.
We managed media and press engagement across key milestones and worked with local partners and political stakeholders to continue to make the local case for a West Midlands Gigafactory – ultimately securing planning approval in January 2022.
