The Situation

The Social Work Awards Ltd is a registered charity that aims to recognise the challenging work of qualified social workers. The charity is managed by a Board of Trustees and funded solely through sponsorship enabling it to fulfil its mission of positively promoting social work, sharing best practices, and enhancing the profession’s reputation.  

What we did

PLMR Genesis manages the charity’s events, PR, Digital Marketing, Public Affairs, and supports the charity’s governance.  

  • Event Management: The annual Awards event is attended by 450 social workers and sector professionals. The management involves coordinating with sponsor organisations, managing ticket sales, and overseeing all event logistics, including AV, videography, photography, catering and scripting. We also produce two publications that are given to attendees on the night about the Awards. Post-event, we run a survey and compile a report for the Board of Trustees. We also manage the Parliamentary Reception that follows the Awards in the spring. 
  • Stakeholder Management: We ensure tailored communications for a diverse group of stakeholders, including social work professionals, sponsors, MPs, and patrons. Maintaining engagement with these groups is crucial to the charity’s reputation and sustainability. 
  • Financial Management: PLMR Genesis oversees all financial aspects of the charity, working closely with the Chair of Trustees to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and smooth financial operations. This includes conducting monthly finance meetings and managing the six-figure budget. 
  • Reporting: We produce monthly activity reports, impact assessments, and detailed reports for Trustee meetings to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Media and Public Relations: One of the charity’s goals is to highlight positive examples of social work through media coverage. We have successfully secured year-on-year national, sector, and local media coverage. 
  • Digital Support: PLMR Genesis manages the charity’s website and social media, producing a highlights video post-event. 

The Result

The Social Worker of the Year Awards was named ‘Best Event’ at the 2023 CIPR PRide Awards. The judges were impressed by the event’s strategy, implementation, and lasting positive impacts.
