The Social Work Awards 2022

How PLMR Genesis managed the Social Work Awards in 2022

The Situation

The Social Work Awards Ltd is a registered charity which aims to give recognition to the challenging work of qualified social workers, promote best practice, celebrate success, and improve public understanding of the profession. Each year it runs the national Social Worker of the Year Awards, the only major national awards event for social work in England, attracting hundreds of entries every year and reaching millions of people. PLMR Genesis manages the Social Work Awards, all associated PR and supports the governance of the charity. In 2022, we delivered the most successful Awards yet.

The charity is funded solely from sponsorship which enables it to meet its charitable purpose of positively promoting social work, sharing best practise to enhance the reputation of the profession and improve perceptions of this challenging work.

What we did

Our event management, public relations, digital and governance support has grown the charity from humble beginnings to a large annual celebration with the participation of local authorities, industry stakeholders and the private sector. Our media relations approach, ambitious social media strategy and top-class event management meant we’ve been able to deliver on the charity’s aims while our innovative approach has substantially increased their annual income, geographical footprint and key stakeholder relationships.

The Result

Four years ago the event was reaching 1.5m people via the media; we’ve grown that by more than 300% to 6.23m people. Our social media strategy has raised the profile of the awards with 3.4million people and delivered a top 3 trending hashtag (right behind Prime Ministers Questions on a Wednesday!), plus year-on-year increases in engagement. The team has achieved Top Tier media coverage in national print and radio and delivered 109 items of coverage for the most recent awards event. The event itself is a blockbuster success garnering fantastic feedback from attendees. 98% of attendees to the awards rated it as excellent/very good/good, with 99% rating the organisation as good and 100% approval for the celebrity host.
