Saab

Launching an Innovation Hub and reaching key stakeholders in Government

The Situation

Swedish defence company Saab provides innovative civil, defence and security technologies that help maintain national security. Saab has enjoyed a 40-year partnership with the UK due to its work in these sectors. The company currently employs 300 people across five sites in the UK which in turn contributes to a multi-million-pound supply chain across the country that supports thousands more jobs.

Saab recently launched a partnership with Imperial College London to create an Innovation Hub and asked us to provide media and communications advice and support to ensure the launch event was a success.

What we did

PLMR worked with Saab to organise the launch event at Imperial College’s £2 billion White City Campus. We worked closely with the Saab team on all stages of the event, from preparation, to implementation and securing media coverage.

We provided media training to members of the Saab team and developed the key messaging, ensuring Saab’s joint commitment to ongoing investment and innovation with UK partners were front and centre.  This included production of a video for Saab to highlight their innovation and research work.

We secured key event speakers, including Mark Prisk MP, the then Prime Minister’s Trade Envoy to the Nordic and Baltic region, and the Swedish Ambassador. We also facilitated filming of the event and captured short Vox Pops during the launch for use on social media.

The Result

The event allowed Saab to showcase its new Innovation Hub at Imperial College to key stakeholders in the industry as well as in Government.

We secured coverage in the Evening Standard as well as leading industry press and our social media management achieved hundreds of thousands of impressions.
