The Situation

North Herts Council appointed PLMR to support its consultation on the Churchgate Regeneration Zone, a key town centre site in Hitchin with significant regeneration potential. The Council wanted to gather views from stakeholders and the wider community on what they would like to see delivered as part of the site’s future redevelopment.

What we did

We designed and delivered a comprehensive consultation programme, including workshops with key stakeholder groups, a dedicated Consultation Hub open on multiple dates which was visited by more than 1,000 members of the public, a leaflet drop to the whole District, and a targeted social media campaign to drive participation. The consultation generated over 1,500 survey responses, which we collated and analysed into a detailed report setting out five key recommendations. We subsequently delivered a programme of communications to promote these recommendations to the public, including a video series and social media campaign.

The Result

The consultation findings and five recommendations, alongside concurrent technical work, formed the development principles for the Churchgate Regeneration Zone. These principles are now guiding the Council’s search for a development partner and shaping the future regeneration of this important town centre site.
