North East Essex Diabetes Service (NEEDS)

The North East Essex Diabetes Service (NEEDS), delivers services and education for around 19,000 people living with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in North East Essex. The service is managed by the Suffolk GP Federation.
Suffolk GP Federation commissioned Genesis in 2013 to support their ambitious goal of improving diabetes care and patient outcomes in the Essex region. A new integrated care model was being introduced, changing the way that patients would receive their diabetes care.
We created and managed a patient consultation so people living with diabetes could help shape their new service model. A series of five local events were held and local patient forums re-launched. The strategy included PR, social media, newsletters and design and print.
NEEDS is seen today as a pioneering and award-winning service for diabetes care. Local events helped re-engage patients with their local service, resulting in improvements both to the levels of care and the outcomes of service users.
PLMR’s crisis communications experience is second to none, and includes pre-emptive and reactive work across traditional and social media channels. We work with a range of organisations to offer critical communication support when they are faced with difficult and challenging scenarios.
