The Situation

Moda Living appointed PLMR to deliver a comprehensive consultation and engagement programme for the next phase of the major New Garden Square masterplan in Birmingham City. Plot D would deliver 462 apartments – exclusively for rent – including a 37-storey tower along Hagley Road, strategically positioned between the city centre and Edgbaston.

What we did

We recognised that the route to success was to demonstrate not only the key strengths of the proposals at Plot D – transforming a brownfield site to deliver hundreds of new homes, public realm, and amenities – but also how these plans fitted within an exciting and transformative neighbourhood masterplan at New Garden Square.

PLMR executed a public relations strategy which included community and stakeholder engagement, as well as wider communications support and political insight.

In doing so, we secured meetings with a number of key stakeholders, including a Ladywood ward councillor and officials at Birmingham City Council and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

We also delivered leaflets to local residents, produced a consultation website, and publicised within the local media, before a two-day public exhibition with detailed exhibition boards and content was held. During the two days, we welcomed a number of attendees.

Over the course of the consultation period responses to the proposals were overwhelmingly positive. Once submitted the application achieved very limited opposition, thanks to the early engagement work and continued discussions with key stakeholders.

The Result

As a result of our efforts, the application was approved at planning committee.
