CASE STUDY
Moda Living appointed PLMR to deliver a comprehensive consultation and engagement programme for a major Build-to-Rent development in Birmingham City Centre. Great Charles Square would deliver 722 apartments — exclusively for rent — including a 39-storey tower within Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter Conservation Area.
We recognised that the route to success was to achieve the buy-in of key stakeholders, including the Jewellery Quarter Development Trust, Jewellery Quarter BID, Colmore BID, ward councillors, and Birmingham Civic Society. We also secured meetings with the Leader of Birmingham City Council, Cllr Ian Ward.
Our approach prioritised detailed meetings with these stakeholders and developing the scheme in parallel with their comments. This resulted in a proposal which was supported by these key stakeholders.
At the end of this detailed process, we held a two-day public exhibition with detailed exhibition boards and content. Over the two days, we welcomed 175 attendees. Once submitted, the application achieved very limited opposition, thanks to the early engagement work, despite being such a major development within a Conservation Area.
PLMR’s crisis communications experience is second to none, and includes pre-emptive and reactive work across traditional and social media channels. We work with a range of organisations to offer critical communication support when they are faced with difficult and challenging scenarios.
