The Situation

Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership (CWLEP) was an alliance of public and private sector organisations who worked together to grow the local economy, attract new investment and jobs, and increase prosperity.

PLMR Advent was the retained agency for CWLEP from when it was established in 2011 until it closed in March 2023 following the Government’s announcement in the Levelling-Up White Paper, that LEPs in England were to integrate into local democratic institutions.

What we did

PLMR Advent helped to establish CWLEP in Coventry and Warwickshire’s business community through a media recognition campaign focused in the local press before widening its profile in the regional and national media.

PLMR Advent was responsible for all CWLEP communications which ranged from daily LinkedIn posts and daily Twitter posts – CWLEP had the highest Twitter followers among the West Midlands LEPs – to press releases and board communications through to writing speeches for CWLEP staff to make to ministers.

Board-level communications were also produced by the PLMR Advent team along with the writing, design and printing of its annual review.

We also responded to media requests for statements and dealt with crisis comms on a range of topics.

The Result

CWLEP was always one of the top performing LEPs in England and outperformed many other areas in the UK as an attractive location for attracting inward investment which was partly due to the agile and tailored PR/lobbying advice provided to CWLEP and its five chairs.

This was highlighted when CWLEP successfully led the bid to build the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre alongside Coventry City Council and the University of Warwick and the £132 million secured was the single biggest investment by Government into any LEP area.

PLMR Advent was there every step of the way to promote CWLEP’s achievements over the last 12 years as it brought £191m of investment to the area which was match-funded by £407.4m for a wide range of projects throughout Coventry and Warwickshire. This led to the creation of more than 17,500 jobs and support for 6,200 learners.

It also received three rounds of funding from the Government’s Local Growth Fund which resulted in 5,500 homes being built along with 150,000 sq m of commercial floorspace.

PLMR Advent serviced the whole CWLEP group including C&W Champions and the Growth Hub and continue to do so even though CWLEP is now closed.
