CASE STUDY

Care UK

This four-year PR project involved effective stakeholder management and communication around the build and opening of 10 new care homes in Suffolk.

The Situation

Care UK is one of the country’s leading independent residential care providers with 150 care homes nationally. PLMR Genesis was selected as Care UK’s PR partner to support with the closure of several council-run care homes, and the development of 10 new care homes and day clubs in Suffolk.

Our purpose was to build Care UK’s reputation in Suffolk and to generate awareness of the multi-million-pound development plan among local communities, while managing key stakeholders. We positioned the quality of home design, state-of-the-art features, and additional nursing and specialist dementia care being offered.

What we did

We delivered a four-year proactive PR, media relations and stakeholder engagement programme. The work delivered by PLMR Genesis paved the way for planning approvals, publicised construction milestones, celebrated each care home opening, built and managed stakeholder relationships, and supported sales once open. We also delivered copywriting for regular community newsletters and quarterly magazines to support effective stakeholder relations.

We organised community activities with local schools and groups – including art projects, school tours and special event with Ed Sheeran – to build relations and generate positive PR opportunities.

Throughout the project we also managed sensitive messaging and issue management around the closure of the original care homes, the movement of residents into their new-build homes, neighbourhood concerns, stakeholder disputes and managing CQC ratings once the homes were fully operating. This required careful, bespoke, transparent communication and strong relationships with the local media to maintain Care UK’s reputation in Suffolk.

The Result

We generated an average of 18 positive media articles achieved each month throughout the four-year period, through local press and broadcast as well as care sector trade press. We maintained a consistent momentum of media coverage and stakeholder relations throughout the project, celebrating each care home individually within its local community.

On the opening of each care home, we exceeded client expectations in generating new customer enquiries and positive community engagement.
