The Situation

The PLMR Built Environment team was appointed by British Solar Renewables (BSR) to undertake a programme of community engagement to support its planning application for a 49.99mw solar development on Land at Bakers Road, Knowl Green.

What we did

PLMR focussed on building political and public support by emphasising the urgent need for renewable energy, addressing both the climate and the cost-of-living crises. The engagement program involved a variety of activities from issuing letters to immediate neighbours and information leaflets to engaging key stakeholders. Advertising for the consultation also included a letter to immediate neighbours offering them bespoke meetings, a poster, a local press release sent to local media, and a dedicated project website.

The Result

We undertook a full best-practice consultation and achieved a balanced response with a mix of positive and constructive feedback. he planning application was approved by Braintree District Council Planning Committee in September 2024.
