The Situation

The British Blinds and Shutters Association (BBSA) launched its ‘Make it Safe’ campaign in 2009 to raise awareness for safer blinds. It provides appropriate safety advice to homeowners, landlords and those responsible for public and commercial buildings to educate trade and consumers of the potential hazards of blinds operated by looped cords or chains.

The BBSA was working to promote child safety and required an integrated PR campaign to increase activity and further raise awareness of this important issue. A new EU safety standard was being introduced to ensure more stringent child safety measures.

What we did

National PR communicated window blind safety messages to national media and raised awareness of the BBSA ‘Make it Safe’ campaign. Crisis planning and media training helped BBSA and spokespersons prepare for and manage crisis situations.

The Result

Proactive contact with national consumer journalists achieved media coverage for window blind safety messages in high circulation family, parenting and housing magazines, raising awareness of the BBSA ‘Make it Safe’ campaign. We established BBSA as a reliable, authoritative body for media comments.
