The Situation

Elexon is responsible for areas of governance in the energy system through the Balancing and Settlement Code (BSC), and administers some of the most important programmes accelerating the clean power transition – including Market Wide Half-Hourly Settlement and distributing the payments for Contracts for Difference.
Despite being fundamental to the successful operation of the electricity sector, Elexon’s complexity, behind-the-scenes profile and wide range of responsibilities meant that some stakeholders in the sector were unaware of the value the organisation was providing.
Our brief was to clearly communicate the value of Elexon to an expanding group of stakeholders, and raise the profile of its evolving role, including positioning it for new responsibilities in a changing sector.

What we did

PLMR supported Elexon to develop clear messaging and briefings on its role in the UK and secured a number of meetings with high-profile government officials. This provided an opportunity to brief key senior stakeholders on Elexon programmes.
We also leveraged our energy PR expertise to secure media interviews and op-eds with key trade media, and supported Elexon to host a roundtable with key stakeholders in the energy sector, including National Grid ESO, Octopus Energy, and Citizens Advice.

The Result

PLMR worked collaboratively with the Elexon team, to raise Elexon’s profile, including its appointment to a new market role. This included coverage in key trade titles, including Utility Week, The Energyst, Energy Live News, and Current News.
With our support, Elexon has strengthened its stakeholder relationships across the sector – including with Ofgem and DESNZ – with appreciation growing not only of Elexon’s existing role but also its future potential.
