Tes: How our trust is making QTS achievable for all

Client: Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust

Sector: Education

PLMR supports client Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust (BDAT), a multi-academy trust based in Bradford and the surrounding region, and spotted a newsjacking opportunity in March to showcase the expertise of the Trust. This followed the Government’s Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill, which would require all teachers to hold or be working towards Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).

Recognising BDAT’s existing leading work in this area, PLMR worked with the Director of Professional and Career Development at BDAT to identify key case studies and areas of best practice to develop a pitch for the media. This tapped into the ongoing news topic of recruitment and retention in the sector and shared recommendations for schools and Trusts to help respond to the Bill’s new requirements.

This secured excellent coverage in Tes, a leading education trade publication, creating a unique media moment for the Trust which positioned its pioneering work to support inclusive and sustainable teacher recruitment at the centre of a topical conversation in the sector.

PLMR held a focused PR session with the school to identify positive news stories and angles for media, alongside building strong relationships with the local paper to raise their profile in the community.

As part of this campaign, PLMR drafted a press release to celebrate a THOA teacher being nominated for a prestigious education award, which secured coverage in Philanthropy News Digest and key local outlets, Ludlow and Tenbury Wells Advertiser and the Shropshire Star.

Since December and starting this PR programme, PLMR has secured 8 pieces of positive coverage for the school, helping to share its positive news with its key audiences and helping to drive up pupil recruitment at a crucial time for the school.
