MODA, a client of PLMR’s Midlands and Built Environment practice, has secured planning permission for major regeneration proposals from Birmingham City Council’s Planning Committee.
The proposals at Plot D in New Garden Square will see the creation of 462 new homes for rent in a striking 37-storey tower along the Hagley Road opposite the Edgbaston Village Metro Station.
The plans, which have been brought forward in partnership with landowner Calthorpe Estates, form Phase 2 of the wider New Garden Square masterplan. On completion, New Garden Square promises to deliver around 2,400 new homes, commercial spaces and high quality public realm across the 11-acre site.
PLMR worked with MODA to help secure planning permission by executing a public relations strategy which included community and stakeholder engagement, as well as wider communications support and political insight. As part of this work, the PLMR team led the delivery of an extensive public consultation campaign to engage with local residents, businesses and stakeholders.
Our work on Plot D is just the latest success PLMR has helped deliver for MODA in Birmingham. In November 2020, we helped secure planning permission for their major regeneration proposals at Great Charles Street in the city’s Jewellery Quarter. This development is now under construction and promises to deliver over 720 apartments for rent.
Will Savage, Board Director at PLMR, said:
“The approval of proposals at Plot D represents a major step forward for the New Garden Square masterplan.
“The plans not only promise to deliver exceptional public realm improvements, including the next phase of a new one-acre park, but also deliver a significant number of high-quality new homes on brownfield land.
“In partnership with MODA, we were committed to providing a real opportunity for the local community and stakeholders to take part in a meaningful public consultation. We are proud to have delivered against this commitment.
“Our dedicated Built Environment practice in the Midlands has been delighted to have played a role in reaching this milestone moment, building on the success PLMR and MODA have already achieved together in Birmingham.”
