PLMR Group Media Snapshot: December 2023

December was, as ever, a festive-filled month as the nation joined together to spend time with loved ones, participate in the many annual Christmas quizzes, and to once again (shamefully) face the infamous last-minute dash for presents. It has also been a time for reflection on the year that was, as we celebrated the arrival of the new year. Now, as we return to our desks and eat up the last of the mince pies, we look back at the busy and successful month that ended 2023 on a high.

Throughout December, we supported our clients to achieve a huge range of impactful national, regional, local and trade coverage, attended exciting client events and set strategic objectives for the year ahead at our PLMR Group away day (and of course celebrated over some mulled wine at our Christmas party!). We also received exciting news as our Head of Education, Tiffancy Beck, was awarded an OBE in the King’s honours list for her role as Co-Founder and Chair of Trustees at Maritime Academy Trust and her wider sector work!

So, with lots to celebrate and refuelled for another ambitious year ahead, take a look at our media highlights for December 2023

The Grocer: Figures reveal scale of food surplus operation over Christmas

Client: Company Shop Group

Team: Food

Sector: Food, Drink and Retail

PLMR worked with Company Shop Group, the UK’s largest surplus redistribution organisation, to shine a light on the important work the business was doing over the festive period to stop perfectly good food from needlessly going to waste.

Utilising internal forecast figures to estimate the amount of surplus food that would be saved from waste based on year-on-year data and leveraging impactful insights from the Group’s data-rich member surveys, the PLMR team pitched and secured coverage in a range of key sector press for retailers and manufacturers. This included The Grocer, Convenience Store, and The Retail Bulletin.

Independent Catholic News: Sixth formers host festive afternoon for care home residents

Client: Romero Catholic Academy

Team: PLMR Advent (Education)

Sector: Education

PLMR Advent helped publicise the generosity of sixth form students at Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School, part of the Romero Catholic Academy in Coventry, who hosted a festive get-together for 30 care home residents.

We put together and pitched a press release celebrating the work of students who planned, raised money for and hosted an afternoon tea, bingo and a choir performance for the care home residents ahead of Christmas. This was in partnership with the St Vincent de Paul Foundation, which supports voluntary action to offer friendship to isolated people.

We successfully secured national coverage on BBC Breakfast as well as regional coverage in the Coventry Observer, BBC CWR, BBC Midlands Today and Free Radio. In addition, we secured coverage in Catholic media, namely Independent Catholic News.

The Sunday Times: More women promised inheritance

Client: Lime Solicitors

Team: PR and Corporate Communications

Sector: Legal

PLMR supported the Contentious Probate practice of Lime Solicitors to promote its ‘Let’s Talk about the End’ campaign. Lime Solicitors are keen to encourage people to speak openly and honestly with their loved ones about their wishes for the end, to avoid fraught and emotionally challenging disputes in the future.

Drawing on their unique polling data and insights, PLMR worked closely with Lime Solicitors to craft an original story which could attract media interest, while also providing a platform to showcase their expertise and advocate for their key messages.

We carried out a targeted sell-in and were pleased to help promote Lime Solicitor’s expertise and their important work to a national audience with a feature in The Sunday Times. This coverage appeared in print.

Housing Today: Plans for 146-home development in Birmingham approved

Client: Prosperity Group

Team: Built Environment

Sector: Housing

PLMR worked with Prosperity Group, a Birmingham-based residential developer and investor, to publicise the granting of planning consent for their Kent Street proposals in Birmingham’s Southside.

We shined a light on how their plans will transform a brownfield site to deliver much-needed new homes and high-quality amenities for residents to enjoy in the heart of the city. We also highlighted the positive engagement undertaken with surrounding cultural venues in the vibrant Gay Village through the planning process, ensuring that they are not only protected, but will benefit from being part of the area’s evolution in the long term.

We pitched and secured coverage in a range of key sector press for the built environment. This included Housing Today and Property Week.

Building Design & Construction: 46% of project professionals working in construction consider themselves to be neurodivergent, APM research reveals

Client: Association for Project Management (APM)

Team: PLMR Genesis

Sector: Professional Services

A survey by the Association for Project Management (APM) found that 46% of project professionals in the construction industry are neurodivergent, prompting renewed calls for greater awareness and accommodation in the workplace.

To help highlight this important issue, PLMR Genisis analysed the research, identified the news angles and then drafted and pitched the story to key target sector publications to achieve maximum impact. Strong coverage was achieved for APM, including online in Building Design & Construction (BDC) Magazine which attracts just under 15,000 monthly visitors.
