A team from Genesis PR took the Orwell Walk in their stride as they completed the 14 mile challenge on Sunday 17 June, raising vital funds to support the work of Ipswich based charity Families in Need (FIND).
The Orwell Walk, Run and Cycle, organised each year by the Rotary Club of Ipswich East, was one of a number of fundraising activities Genesis PR is taking part in to help reach their ambitious £2,000 target.
The team have raised £215 from the sponsored walk and a further £150 on Suffolk Day when they held a bake sale selling homemade tasty treats including ‘Kesgrave cookies’ and ‘Rocky Portman Road’.
Genesis PR’s director Penny Arbuthnot said: “The walk was a big challenge for everyone who took part, especially with the hot weather and uneven terrain, but we all helped one another out and crossed the finish line in high spirits.
“It was important for us to complete the walk and lead the way as a FIND 50 fundraiser to raise the money that is needed to continue supporting the most vulnerable families and individuals in Ipswich.”
Genesis PR created and launched the FIND 50 Lifeline Appeal which aims to recruit 50 workplaces, schools, groups, or individuals to each raise £2,000 to help fund the building of a new foodbank in Ipswich.
FIND was established almost 30 years ago in response to the growing need for food parcels and basic living essentials from people in poverty and crisis. The charity provides food, household items, furniture and bedding free of charge to those living in Ipswich and the surrounding area who are deprived of the minimum standard of living.
Demand has risen year on year and the charity, staffed by over 100 local volunteers, now provides over 70 food parcels per week where a person or family is struggling.
