This month Genesis PR was pleased to organise an annual Parliamentary Reception event at the House of Commons which recognised the achievements of social workers from across the country.

The event was part of the Social Worker of the Year Awards for which Genesis handles the year-long event management programme. The awards, which took place back in November in London, aim to improve the reputation and understanding of the social work profession and winners from the 2015 event were invited to the House of Commons to celebrate their success with representatives from the Department of Health and Department for Education.

The Parliamentary Reception was attended by the Minister of State for Care and Support, Alistair Burt MP; Robin Walker MP, the Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan and the two Chief Social Workers, Lyn Romeo and Isabelle Trowler. Representatives from Sanctuary Social Care (title sponsor of the awards), corporate partner the British Association of Social Workers and sponsors of the 17 categories were also there to meet the winners and network.

Speaking at the event, Minister Burt, said: “Social workers play a vital role in improving people’s lives. These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate and showcase social work at its very best.”

The 2016 awards will open for entries on Tuesday 29th March and the closing date for nominations is Friday 22nd July. There are still a number of sponsorship opportunities available for organisations who are looking to raise their profile in the social care sector.
