New recruit Rebecca Tydeman on starting her journey at PLMR

Finishing my A-Levels meant I was beginning a new chapter of my life; one I thought was at university. I started university at the beginning of September and realised that I didn’t want to be there; it wasn’t the right place for me, so I left. As a young person with no degree, I felt like I had taken a step forward only to then take three steps backwards and I faced the most daunting task of my life to date: deciding what to do next.

I researched multiple alternatives to university and made a pragmatic decision to become an apprentice – by emerging myself in the real world of work I would be able to gain valuable hands on experience that would help me make informed decisions later on in life and would make me look admirable to future employers. It also offered a fixed opportunity as many apprenticeships last longer than 6 months. After a short while of searching I got a call one morning from Apprenticeship Connect asking for an interview to see if I was compatible with any of the apprenticeships they had on offer.

At my interview I was told about an opportunity at PLMR which sounded like something I’d really enjoy. Apprenticeship Connect arranged for an interview with PLMR which I attended within a few days. From the moment I walked into the office, the atmosphere was really friendly and had such a good feel. I went through the selection process and was successful! I started on the last day of November, just in time to be a judge for the internal baking competition ’12 bakes of Christmas’.

Since then, every day has been completely different, I am learning new skills and each day is just as interesting and fun as the last.
