Local students have the opportunity to explore the wide and exciting range of creative career opportunities available to them at the #MediaDiscovery event hosted by Genesis PR, University Campus Suffolk (UCS) and a range of local media and creative companies at the UCS Waterfront Building on Tuesday 3 November from 1pm - 3pm.

Local students have the opportunity to explore the wide and exciting range of creative career opportunities available to them at the #MediaDiscovery event hosted by Genesis PR, University Campus Suffolk (UCS) and a range of local media and creative companies at the UCS Waterfront Building on Tuesday 3 November from 1pm – 3pm.

The event, which is open to students aged 16 and over, has been organised voluntarily by Genesis PR with UCS. BA (Hons) Event management studentat UCS, Georgina Anstee, has worked with Genesis one day per week to plan #MediaDiscovery and BA (Hons) Digital Film Production  students Magdalena Marciniak, Comfort Gleason-Shobande and Ashleigh Padmore have produced a film to be shown during the event featuring young professionals who are already developing their careers in creative industry sectors. BA (Hons) Photography student Dulce Mendes has also provided support.

Penny Arbuthnot, director at Genesis PR, said: “#MediaDiscovery is all about raising awareness of the huge variety of jobs available in the PR, media and the creative industries. There is a misconception that to be successful in this field you need to be in London but it’s a strong growth sector in our region and we need to build better understanding amongst students about the employment opportunities available here in Suffolk and the East of England.”

#MediaDiscovery is for anyone thinking about a career in PR, social or digital media, broadcasting, newspaper publishing, graphic design, photography or film production.  Companies exhibiting are Archant, Town 102 FM, Sanctuary Personnel, James Fletcher Photography, Ipswich Community Media, Ginger Nut Media, Summer Isle Films, Simple by Designs and the Public Relations Consultants Association (PRCA), who will be promoting apprenticeships in public relations.

Penny added: “We are expecting around 100 students and if the event is well received by students and employers then we’d like to grow it further next year and get even more creative companies involved.”

Laura Locke, Senior Lecturer at UCS Suffolk Business School said: “Suffolk Business School is very pleased to be working with Genesis PR on this exciting project, which has significant benefits for students studying on a range of business, arts and humanities degree programmes. The creative industry is often under-represented at careers events in the region so we’re delighted to redress the balance with #MediaDiscovery.”

#MediaDiscovery will be held at the UCS Waterfront Building, on Neptune Quay in Ipswich IP4 1QJ. For more information and to book your free place, visit www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/mediadiscovery-with-genesis-pr-tickets-18712952946
