PLMR HOSTS EXCLUSIVE WESTMINSTER BREAKFAST WITH ED DAVEY MP

PLMR kicked off the New Year with an exclusive Westminster Breakfast with the Rt Hon Ed Davey, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change.

Businesses from a wide range of sectors had an opportunity to talk about the issues affecting their businesses with the Cabinet Minister in the Council Room of Church House, Westminster, over a relaxed, informal and decidedly wholesome breakfast,

PLMR Breakfast with Ed Davey MPEd Davey recently threw his hat in the ring for the job of leader of the Liberal Democrats, should a vacancy emerge at any point in the near future. Elected in 1997, the MP for Kingston and Surbiton has won supporters in the party for his committed and passionate environmentalism. His keynote speech at the Liberal Democrat party conference last autumn strayed beyond his energy and climate change brief and incorporated wider economic themes.

Ed Davey talked about the environmental issues that originally drew him into politics and towards the Liberal Democrats. He also shared a few reflections about life in a coalition government and was very frank about some of the significant disagreements and arguments with his Conservative colleagues.  He was particularly animated about the Conservative attempts to block his efforts to tackle fuel poverty.

Whether the Liberal Democrats remain in Government after the next election, their time in coalition has given a few members of Ed Davey’s generation a great opportunity to turn some of their long held political dreams into reality. Ed Davey’s experience in representing the UK at international climate change summits and pushing the sustainability agenda through Whitehall will be a valuable asset for the party whatever happens to him and his fellow Liberal Democrats Members of Parliament when they face the electorate later this year.

This week’s Westminster Breakfast was one of a number of events hosted by PLMR to bring businesses leaders together in an informal setting with senior politicians from across the political spectrum. Contact PLMR to find out more about future events.
