PLMR’s Week Ahead in Westminster: 18th July

What does the Scottish referendum mean for the public affairs industry in the UK?

This week PLMR is in Edinburgh, looking at what impact the independence vote will have on lobbying agencies and business in Scotland as a whole.

Will the referendum actually encourage public affairs and PR agencies to open an office in Scotland regardless of the result?
Scott Brodie, a Scottish lobbyist based in London says it will. He thinks even if people don’t vote in favour of independence, more powers will be granted to Holyrood, providing new opportunities for agencies north of the border.

Is there an increased demand for lobbying services in Scotland?
PLMR’s Managing Director, Kevin Craig believes there is. The agency are now opening an office in Edinburgh in response to several requests he’s received from existing clients.

Does this mean all sorts of companies will benefit from the referendum?
Emma Finnie, an office lettings agent working in Edinburgh doesn’t think this is the case. In fact, she believes the opposite is true – particularly when it comes to small businesses.

Is she right?
PLMR spoke to independent baker, Caroline Walsh who is firmly backing the Better Together campaign.
Regardless of the outcome, Scott says September could be a boom time for public affairs in Scotland.
