But – two years after the festival opened its doors to the PR community – not all PROs are bowled over with enthusiasm. Peregrine CEO Anthony Payne suggests: ‘In marketing land Cannes has some sort of position, but in PR land I don’t think anyone’s even heard of it.’ Firefly boss Claire Walker says: ‘I prefer to be in an environment like the PRWeek Awards, which is more balanced between the agency and in-house community.’ Of course, Flack couldn’t possibly comment …
PLMR has won two awards for PR and public affairs work at the 2011 Cannes Lions Festival. The agency won Gold Lions for public affairs and media relations on behalf of Durand Academy – two weeks after its work for the London school made national newspaper headlines amid criticism from the TaxPayers’ Alliance.
