PLMR Group Media Snapshot: December 2024

December 2024 brought us plenty of festive cheer with Christmas carols, school nativity plays and the long-awaited finale of the famous TV show, Gavin and Stacey which racked up the highest Christmas Day viewership in 16 years. PLMR was no exception as we celebrated our collective achievements of 2024, showcased by the launch of our inaugural PLMR Wrapped!

From hosting more than 20 insight events to welcoming 1,000 attendees at our PLMR Policy Hub, being placed in the top 50 PR Week rankings and being shortlisted for and winning 17 awards, as well as investing £100k in professional development, it has been a year to remember!

Now, as we finish up the last of the mince pies and prepare for another exciting year ahead, sit back and read about some of the fantastic media highlights the PLMR Group achieved in the last month of 2024…

GB News: Suicide charity urge public not to suffer in silence as calls triple over last two months

Client: SOS Silence of Suicide

Sector: Charity

Suicide prevention charity, SOS Silence of Suicide, enlisted PLMR Advent’s support to promote their festive TV advert and song – called Find Your Light – to encourage those who are struggling to seek help, while also appealing for donations.

To attract media attention for both the advert and song, PLMR Advent led with the statistics about the charity seeing a three-fold rise in demand for its services, while also sensitively seeking out case studies. The song was also sung by a choir, and we capitalised on the visual nature of this during our sell-in to TV stations.

This resulted in two major pieces of broadcast coverage for the charity with both GB News and BBC South Today filming TV packages that reached hundreds of thousands of people

This was further complemented by a hit on the BBC news website, as well as coverage in key regional titles ranging from Bournemouth Echo and Portsmouth News, through to Coventry Live and Hits Radio Coventry and Warwickshire.

STV: Interview with The Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Client: The Commonwealth War Graves Commission

Sector: Culture

The Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is the global leader in commemoration, responsible for the care and maintenance of 23,000 war memorials and cemeteries in 150 countries. Throughout December, PLMR collaborated closely with the CWGC to support their media engagement.

PLMR secured coverage on STV for a feature on Perth Academy, a school in Scotland that has done extensive research into its alumni who served in the World Wars. The CWGC launched For Evermore last year, a digital commemoration platform for the general public to contribute stories about their family members and friends who served and died in the First and Second World Wars. Perth Academy has helped students undertake independent research into the stories of former pupils who fought and died in the two World Wars, details of which can now be found on the For Evermore platform. Projects such as these enable young people to better engage with what soldiers experienced during both wars and why they may choose to continue to commemorate them.

The successful broadcast feature on STV included an interview with Elaine Edwards, Public Engagement Coordinator at The Commonwealth War Graves Commission, as well as excerpts from a history lesson at Perth Academy.

This follows on from our work with them earlier this year, in which PLMR supported the CWGC in their torch roadshow to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, and the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem.

Place North West: Muse recruits Darby

Client: Muse

Sector: Built Environment

Muse delivers ambitious regeneration at scale, leading complex, mixed-use projects. To close out a year of rapid growth in the North West for Muse, PLMR supported the team in publicising the appointment of its new Development Director.

As a senior hire, we highlighted not only the high level of expertise the appointment will bring to the team and projects but also how this new arrival reflects a strong and expanding regional pipeline.

We achieved coverage in a range of strategic publications, encompassing regional and trade media. These included Place North West, Construction Enquirer, Marketing Stockport and BE News.

Eastern Daily Press: Why business is blooming for garden centres in the region

Client: Notcutts

Sector: Retail

Notcutts is a family-owned group of individual garden centres across England. PLMR Gensis worked with the team to secure prominent coverage across two regional titles, East Anglian Daily Times and Eastern Daily Press, for the organisation.

We coordinated press interviews with two garden centre managers in Norfolk and Suffolk, who spoke about garden centres as a leisure destination, especially at Christmas time. The article featured a range of commentary with Notcutts holding the top spot online and in print, and the client was delighted with the coverage which helped to elevate its profile within its communities.

The Star: Clive Betts MP for Sheffield South East visits education and skills hub for SEND students

Client: Nexus Multi Academy Trust

Sector: Education

PLMR worked with client Nexus MAT to promote the opening of Enterprise Works, a Sheffield-based education, skills and employment hub which will support young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) to develop skills and pursue employment opportunities in a variety of areas, including health and fitness, food tech and hospitality.

To raise awareness of the innovative facilities, PLMR identified and engaged with key local stakeholders and invited them to tour the site. This included Sheffield MP, Clive Betts, who visited the facilities and spoke with students, hearing about Enterprise Works’ impact first-hand. We drafted a thorough briefing to ensure the visit was a success, highlighting to the MP how the hub supports pupil wellbeing and pathways to meaningful adult lives.

To further promote the new hub, we drafted an impactful press release demonstrating the exciting and much-needed support it provides alongside securing a quote from the MP to bolster the facilities’ profile with the support of a trusted local figure. From this, PLMR secured excellent coverage in The Sheffield Star, a priority local outlet for the client which helps to further the new hub’s visibility with key partners and prospective parents and staff.
