Director - Head of Birmingham

Supported by PLMR, Merton College – a College of the University of Oxford – has achieved planning consent for 540 new homes in Cherwell, Oxfordshire.

The site, located to the west of Yarnton village, was removed from the Green Belt and allocated as part of a Partial Review of Cherwell’s Local Plan, before an outline planning application was submitted.

The new homes are required to accommodate Oxford’s requirements as part of an identified unmet housing need of 4,400 homes.

The scheme will deliver 43% affordable homes, a care home, community home work hub, new school playing fields, and an extensive network of green and blue infrastructure, meadowland, and community woodland.

PLMR has been supporting Merton College to run a comprehensive public consultation exercise, including developing a project website, engaging with councillors, parish councils and community groups, along with local press, as well as running public consultation events.

Having worked with Merton College since 2018 Will Savage, Board Director at PLMR, commented: “Oxford has a critical housing shortage and the delivery of 540 new homes is a significant contribution to the city’s unmet need.

“The entire multi-disciplinary team has worked exceptionally hard alongside Merton College to achieve this outcome and we are proud to be able to contribute to the delivery of now homes in an area which desperately needs them.”
