PLMR welcomes Isle of Wight students for immersive week of work experience

PLMR Group, one of the country’s leading communications firms, welcomed two students from Cowes Enterprise College, part of Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), for a week’s work experience and range of cultural activities.

Velimira and Trinity, both in Year 13 and studying for their A Levels, supported the education practice with a number of pieces of work, including stakeholder mapping, writing press releases, public affairs, and drafting briefings. The students also met with colleagues from across the business, who talked about their career pathways as well as giving insights on the sectors and various services the business offers. Alongside the work experience, the two students had the opportunity to take part in an array of activities during their stay including a tour of Parliament, and evenings spent variously at the National Theatre watching The Father and the Assassin, at Tate Britain and at a political debate at UCL.

It was a full work and cultural experience programme, giving the students an understanding of a range of experiences which they will then be able to talk about on their university applications. Engaging in day-to-day life in a communications agency also offered a snapshot of the working world and what awaits on the other side of university, helping the students to consider what they might like to do in the future.

PLMR is very proud to have been able to put on this programme for longstanding client Ormiston Academies Trust (OAT), supporting the Trust in its mission to provide students with excellent learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom. The programme is part of PLMR’s wider philanthropic efforts, which have seen the business donate 5% of net profits to causes at home and abroad ever since it was founded in 2006.

PLMR is has had an exceptional year, experiencing growth and success with new clients, new hires and numerous award nominations, as reflected in the announcements that PLMR Group Ltd is in PR Week’s Top 10 Public Affairs agencies and Top 50 UK communications firms.

Rachel McCarthy, National Lead Practitioner for Enrichment (Careers and Eco-Trust) at Ormiston Academies Trust said:

“PLMR were generous with their time, resources, and expertise, and the week was so well organised! We are really grateful to PLMR for putting on such a brilliant and varied work experience programme for our students, which I know they both got so much out of. It’s so important for OAT that we are offering our students a range of opportunities which help to broaden their horizons, and partners like PLMR are critical to making this happen.”

Ollie Lane, Managing Director at PLMR said:

“We were delighted to host Velimira and Trinity for what we hope was a really valuable week in London, where they spent time getting to know colleagues, learning about politics and PR, and exploring what London has to offer. At PLMR, we are committed to going the extra mile to support causes close to our hearts and providing opportunities for young people wherever we can.”
