My work as event coordinator for Coventry & Warwickshire Champions

PLMR Advent has played a key part in the development and success of CW Champions, a leading business influence and networking organisation.

Here, Kat Phillips talks about her role with the group.

Celebrating 10 years for networking organisation

In July 2020, I was handed the reins as event co-ordinator for Coventry & Warwickshire Place Board and Champions. As part of our contract with the organisation, we find speakers, help source venues and facilitate the bi-monthly events.

The first national lockdown was starting to ease at this time, but major events were still restricted to online only, so my first CW Champions event was a zoom webinar. Like many of us at that time, it was new territory but I was pleased to take on the challenge and the meeting went very well.

Now, I have been organising the administration for CW Place Board and Champions for over two years, built up a reputation with influential business leaders and our Champions, developed my skills within event planning and, importantly, grown personally and professionally.

The role has seen me dealing with ministers, national business leaders, well-known sports organisations and a string of venues. I work closely with colleagues to ensure we have a presence at each event, and that we handle social media and video.

I quickly picked up that a key factor in the success of planning has been communication! You need to be prepared for all sorts of questions and comments that head your way, many of which are impossible to predict!

The organisation celebrated 10 years of events in the past few weeks with another packed house – we regularly attract 150 business leaders – and it was fantastic to be part of the celebrations and to look ahead to the next generation and where it may lead us.

Thanks to CW Champions I have been able to visit some of the most historic and extraordinary venues within the region and learn more about the area. I look forward to seeing what the future will be for this organisation and to continue to be part of it.
