After one whole year – today is the day that I say goodbye to my role as an intern at Advent Communications.
Reflecting back to this time last year, I was getting ready to start my new role in an office environment and I had no idea what to expect. Now I am preparing to return to Coventry University for my final year and apply all the new skills that I have learnt.
I knew that I wanted to experience a work placement during my time as a student so that I could further my experience, gain more knowledge and make the most out of as many opportunities as possible.
I have been involved with so many tasks and projects this year that have definitely helped me grow and develop. I have co-ordinated bi-monthly business events, written press releases that have been published in newspapers and online, organised photoshoots, engaged in interviews and been involved with charity work.
I’ve worked so closely with key-decision makers in Coventry and Warwickshire, CEOs and Managing Directors. I have even had the opportunity to network with business leaders and listen to their success stories.
It has given me some perspective of how much hard work it takes to reach success and being surrounded by successful people has given me even more determination to want to do well.
It is difficult to pin-point one moment that I have enjoyed the most whilst working at Advent. I would have to say that my favourite tasks have included writing press releases for the NSPCC, helping to manage Coventry and Warwickshire Champions events and planting trees for the Heart of England Forest.
This year has really been about making the most out of every opportunity that is given and doing things that may be out of my comfort zone.
The main thing that I will miss the most is working with the Advent team. Throughout this whole experience they have been so helpful, positive and a delight to work with.
I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to work at Advent because I achieved a lot of things that I otherwise would not have done had I not taken on a work placement.
It has been an amazing experience. I have made so many new connections, gained invaluable skills, become more confident and I’ve even learnt to become a morning person!
Looking back to where I was when I started this role and looking at where I am now – I can confidently say that my time at Advent Communications has opened the door to many opportunities and I am very proud of myself and how much I have achieved so far. I am very excited for the next chapter.
I would like to wish the best of luck to Tom Howell, a fellow Coventry University student, who will be taking over my role as intern at Advent Communications. Make the most of it!
