Eight Suffolk charities are now equipped with new skills in PR and social media after attending a pro-bono workshop hosted by Ipswich based agency Genesis PR on Wednesday 5 April.

Genesis senior account executives Tim Miller, Annabelle Rennie and Chloe Atkins hosted the session at Suffolk Food Hall and shared expert advice and tips with representatives from Suffolk Young People’s Health Project, East Suffolk Disability Advice Service, Ipswich Housing Action Group, St Elizabeth Hospice, Families in Need (FIND), ActivLives, Suffolk Blue Cross and West Suffolk Voluntary Association for the Blind.

Topics covered during the workshop included how to reach out to local media, increase brand awareness, take good PR photos and manage social media pages.

The charities enjoyed learning new skills as well as meeting each other and as a result, have now established a new network of support so they can continue to share PR ideas and experiences.

Speaking about the workshop, attendee Karl Dickinson, Business and Marketing Coordinator at Suffolk Young People’s Health Project (4YP), said: “It was really informative and engaging and I have come away with some priority PR actions for 4YP. An added bonus was the opportunity to network with other charities and to establish some new contacts to share tips and ideas with.”

The workshop was organised for all Suffolk charities who enquired about Genesis’ offer of pro-bono PR support for 2017 – the chosen charity of the year will be announced shortly.

Rachel Cass, senior account manager at Genesis PR, said: “Thank you to all who joined us at our PR workshop – it was a great opportunity to share our expertise and help charities to understand the benefits of PR as a vital business tool. We’re hoping that the skills and information learned will provide a lasting legacy for these charities going forward.”
