OFTEC

An integrated PR and Digital Marketing campaign to build consumer support

The Situation

OFTEC is a trade association which runs a government approved competent person scheme. Their focus is ensuring consumers living off the gas grid have safe, affordable and efficient heating systems. OFTEC approached PLMR Genesis with three objectives: increase awareness and positivity towards the OFTEC brand, promote the benefits of OFTEC registration to heating technicians to drive more to register, and promote the use of OFTEC technicians to consumers. These objectives were central to supporting the trade association’s growth ambitions and ensuring high standards are maintained in the domestic and commercial heating sector.

What we did

Over a ten year period, we’ve managed a strategic media relations campaign. We’ve built positive relationships with all the key sector publications in OFTEC’s industry and secured regular editorial features and thought leadership contributions. We also provide insightful commentary from OFTEC on government announcements, industry developments and the benefits of being registered with OFTEC’s scheme. In parallel, we manage a media relations campaign targeting regional consumer publications across the country to promote safety and guidance for households, alongside the important of using reputable technicians. We also design OFTEC’s annual report, host their webinars and provide ongoing issue management consultancy.

The Result

We have achieved substantial media coverage across both trade and consumer media which has included key messages and increased awareness of the brand to their key target audiences. The activity has supported OFTEC’s growth as a trade association and enhanced its reputation as a nationally recognised and trusted brand. As a result, OFTEC has seen a steady growth in technicians registering with their scheme and OFTEC is now recognised as a leading authority in the industry. The media relations campaign has been an important channel for promoting their insights into transitioning off-grid households onto low carbon heating technology and helping to contribute to policy decision making in Westminster.
